Fishing Report

Week ending 29/10/23

It was another mixed bag last week from patterns that worked to the numbers of fish caught. Some days it felt as if the fish were chasing nicely and up for it, then, just as quickly, they would switch off and disappear, for what seemed like ages. Fishing has definitely improved with the water temperature dropping considerably but the fish stocked at the end of last month have really kept out of the way a lot of the time with the majority of the trout caught being older fish. Most anglers have said they think that the inconsistent weather could have played a part in this along with the air pressure.

The numbers are going up though, with regulars to the lake almost touching double figures and the best of the bunch, Martin Smith getting twelve using snakes and damsels.

Plenty of other things also worked well last week such as traditional nymphs, fabs, eggs and blobs. Dries and emergers have caught plenty too at times. The fish have not been far out and have been nicely spread out so numbers caught by bank and boat anglers have been pretty much the same.

With more fish going in next week we are hoping this will improve things further. The picture is of Evans Webber who had a good day fishing with his grandfather and managed to catch his first trout on his new rod with a small black lure.
