What alot of us had been waiting for finally happened last week. With the warmer weather came an explosion of fly life at the lake and the dry fly fishing really took off. Mayfly, hawthorns and daddies were everywhere and the fish were showing and feeding in all areas of the lake. Many dry fly patterns worked through the last seven days. As well as the three mentioned above, black hoppers, gnats, ants, midges, top hat buzzers and a number of other things on top worked nicely. You could still catch with blue flash damsels, cat whiskers or a black snake a bit further down at times and bloodworm and squirmy worms caught through the week but the big story last week was the arrival of the Mayfly. The fish most of the time were very high up in the water and usually not too far out at all last week so again there was no real need for a boat. The restocked fish that went in last week are well settled and fishing really couldn't be any better. The weather forecast for next week looks good so come and cast a line and have some fun.
