Week ending 26/05/24

Week ending 07/04/24

Last week was very steady before the restock on Thursday the 4th but not surprisingly it really improved on the days that followed. Damsels, cats and snakes were still the best performing lures and buzzers (especially black),bloodworm and squirmy worms did nicely also.

Kelston Burgess, for the last few visits has used a white squirmy worm to good effect up at the north end of the lake and Bob Gurnham had a very good day up there with damsels and snakes, catching double figures.

They were active all over the lake last week especially after introducing more fish. You could do well pulling lures but you could do equally well on top at times with a daddy or a klinkhammer. A klink did well for first timer Barry Matthews (pictured) who had an introductory lesson at the beginning of the week. The lessons are still very popular and it's great to see so many coarse anglers giving fly fishing a go.

Most of the fish have been caught within the top six feet and pretty close in. There is no real need for a boat but they have also done well as have the float tubes.

Week ending 31/03/24

It was a very good run up to the Easter festivities at Blackdyke, finishing with a cracking weekend. Last week was definitely not as easy to tempt them out as earlier in the month possibly because of the changeable conditions. Spring showed up for a day and then it was back to cooler temperatures. Saying that, there were not many that came that didn't catch but the catch numbers were definitely not as huge. If there was a hatch however you could quickly do very well with black buzzers. Damsels and cats whiskers did well again last week as did snakes. The 5lb plus fish consistently made appearances and they are still hanging around up at the north end of the lake which remains your best bet for finding big numbers of rainbows. You could still catch off the top at times with various dries working among them daddies and humpies doing quite well. We are expecting the restock in the middle of the week to liven things up considerably and with the temperatures supposedly rising hopefully we can start getting out our emergers and dries.

Week ending 24/03/24

The last seven days saw some very consistent fishing with some really good numbers being caught. Your best bet for seeing more action was still the north end and the eastern side of the lake but last week saw fish caught in most areas. Anglers that used boats and float tubes also saw good sport with plenty now being caught further out also. Fish were caught with a wide range of flies such as cats, damsels and snakes. Bloodworm, buzzers and squirmy worms also caught many lots of fish.

It was really good to see Brian Keyte back after a break and he was true to form landing a beauty using a buzzer. Thanks as always for your continued support of the fishery

Week ending 17/03/24

There was a different feeling in the air last week. The temperatures were mostly pleasant, and the fish were often showing in all areas and occasionally taking dries. Bloodworms, buzzers, damsels and cats still took a good number of the fish with snakes, cormorants and fabs also doing well.

The main difference last week was how active the fish were and the numbers caught. There were more new faces at the lake which we love. Among them, Howard King (pictured) who managed a few rainbows his first time out and who promised he'd be back. Gary Daniel Herman, who is a weekend regular on his float tube managed to tempt the bigger fish out once more and Martin Smith who knows the water as well as anyone managed 32 fish on Saturday and another 17 on Sunday. He landed most of them with damsels, snakes and bloodworm.

The lake fished its socks off last week and we expect much of the same this week.

Week ending 28/01/24

Last week saw mild weather for this time of year and some very consistent sport. Other than a few days when the fish took a bit of a breather, fishing was very good with most anglers putting up good numbers and hardly any blanks. A lot of fish were caught at the top half of the lake and a lot of the time they were hanging out just in front of the reeds. Lots of methods and patterns worked over the last seven days and not surprisingly, damsels, snakes and cats whiskers took lots of fish. Many were also taken using buzzers, nymphs and bloodworms, usually working best under an indicator. Some days they were quite high in the water and even taking off the top occasionally and other days they would sit right on the bottom with their bellies on the floor.

A good example of this was Steve Lambert who managed thirteen with a fifteen-foot leader using a snake under a bung. The best story of last week has to be Rae Gannon who managed to catch her first trout on Saturday. Although she's a regular with her dad Willie, who caught 8 on a damsel himself this visit, it took her a while to get off the mark. As is the norm though, as soon as she got her first, she caught her second not long after. Pictures of Rae Gannon, Daniel Golea and Mahaita Matache.

With the weather as it is and so many fish being caught, it's great being out on the lake right now.

Fishing Report w/e 14/01/24

The winter season at Blackdyke seemed to take a while to take off this year but last week, even before the restock on Friday, fishing improved immensely. The fish were mostly close in, mostly not too far down and could be caught in nearly all areas. There was no need for a boat again last week as they were easily out fished by the banks. Bloodworm did very well last week as did a blue flash damsel or a cats whisker. The fish were very much up for it though so many patterns were working such as blobs, fabs, nymphs, buzzers and a variety of lures. We had plenty of new faces at the lake in the last seven days which is always great to see. Picture of Bob Adare.

Other notables were Vaidas Juska who had (20) and John Blake who had (19) nearly all of which were caught when he ditched the boat and fished from the bank.

Week ending 07/01/24

Although the numbers of fish caught were not massive last week, fishing was very consistent and hardly anybody blanked. A few proved it was possible to reach double figures mostly with some form of lure such as a damsels, dancers, cats whiskers or snakes. Mostly the fish were close in and all banks fished well at times apart from the south bank which was slow especially by the car park. Some other flies that worked last week were the humongous, zonker, black Fritz, black spider and blob. One pattern that took plenty of fish, especially towards the end of the week was the red apps bloodworm. There will be a restock next week and the weather looks to be dry and quite pleasant so we are looking forward to more of the same.

Week ending 17.12.23

Last week was another consistent week of fishiing with only a couple of tough days thrown in. Still the fish were not far out or far down for most of the week although there were signs of them going deeper on Sunday. The takes were often very subtle with the fish taking numerous nips before committing. Most anglers had the same story of the fish they missed due to striking too soon. The most productive flies were blue flash damsels, cats whiskers and snakes. You could also have some success with a dawl bachs, a blobs and occasionally even a daddy on the top. A Montana and a pitsford pea also caught fish last week fished static or slowly retrieved. Peter Vasey who, after catching his first rainbow on the fly the week before last, is at it again , this time with a pitsford pea.

Week ending 03/12/23

We had less anglers on the banks last week which is not surprising with the wintry weather but the ones that did come experienced some great sport. I'm very happy to say that the fish have, at last, started to feed and fishing has very much improved. There was another restock on November 30th but the majority of the fish caught were from earlier restockings.

It took a while for the fish to wake up this autumn but I think we are finally there. With a few frosty mornings under our belts the water is good and cold and the fish are starting to chase a bit. Cats whiskers did very well last week as did many of the white lures all the way up to a snake. Eggs have performed well also. Bob Gurnham used both to good effect, catching twelve on a combination of the two. Malcolm Cole also had a good day on Thursday in rainy conditions, catching seven, all on cats whiskers.

There was no need for a boat last week as the fish were not usually very far out and often hanging around just in front of the reed beds.

We are expecting the newly stocked fish to join the party soon and add to the fun so see you on the banks. Pic is of James Gorricks catch also capturing the setting of the lake too.

Week ending 26.11.23

Last week was a very similar week to the week before. Lures, especially whites ones were still your best bet, usually pulled quite slowly.

Pheasant tail nymphs had its moments as did buzzers and bloodworm but there really wasn't any consistent pattern to the trouts behaviour.

They were well spread around the lake again but there were as many caught in the first few feet as there were almost right on the bottom.

Week ending 22/10/23

Last week saw lots of rainfall and cooler temperatures that really helped to freshen up the water. The fish are active in most areas of the lake. They seemed happy to chase a lure such as a blue flash damsel, black snake or humongous. A slow to medium retrieve had best results and often no more than three rod lengths out. At times the fish were receptive to a dry fly such as a daddy, hopper or a grey wolf.

Malcolm Cole had a good day on Thursday with 6 fish netted and countless lost with black hoppers and red hoppers.

It was was great to host a GAIA workshop at Blackdyke on Sunday for Graham Jackson and Jonh Reynolds. They had tutorials for casting and Mark Aston talked about lure fishing for bass. We supplied them with a barbecue and then they stayed for a fish.

Week ending 1 May, 2023

We had more of the same last week with most of the fish being caught on the top or just below the surface. It was not always easy to net alot of fish but they were showing in all areas of the lake and if you could figure out what they wanted there were some aggressive takes and great fights to be had. Many varieties of emergers and dries worked very well all week. Top hat and shuttlecock buzzers caught a good number of fish along with klinkhammers, shipmans, hawthorns and daddies. You could Also have plenty of success with buzzers a foot or so down either fished under an indicator or part of a washing line setup. With Roberto Deblock managing a very impressive 32 rainbows on a combination of size 16 klinkhammers and small buzzers right at the end of the week and with the next restock tomorrow (Tuesday 2nd) we are expecting an exceptional month ahead of us.

Week ending 23/04/2023

Last week was a lot of fun with most of the fish being taken off the top of the water. The feedback I was getting was that if most of the visitors to the lake landed all of the fish that they hooked they would have all had high double figures. The skill wasn't so much picking the right fly as if it floated they would almost definitely check if out. The skill came in striking at the right time and keeping it on. The fish were active in most areas of the lake also and this time of year when they are looking for dries and emergers you can really get a sense of how many are in there. Even though alot of fish were lost over the last seven days many were caught and the fun factor and the excitement was high with many smiling anglers leaving the lake.

Dries and emergers big and small have all worked at times last week such as daddies, humpies, klinkhammers,shipmans, top hat and shuttlecock buzzers to name a few.

You could also get it done with buzzers and crunchers not too far down.

The fishing has been superb again. Loads off the top along with buzzers and slowly retrieved lures. Water clarity and fishing conditions are excellent.

Week ending 03/04/2023

Anglers had to battle some harsh conditions at times last week, with strong winds blowing, quite low temperatures and plenty of the wet stuff. Those that did venture out were rewarded with excellent sport and plenty of fish. On the rare occasions the rain stopped, the wind calmed down and the sun came out it briefly felt like spring had arrived. This didn't last for very long however before another band of wind and rain returned. The fishing has been very consistent again over the last seven days though with anglers blanking rarely, most netting good numbers and a few getting up in the twenties. The fish were often up for taking lots of different patterns on the same day at the same time. A good example of this is the trio of John and Oli Blake and friend Chris Bonner who knows the lake as well as anybody.

John had 25 with various small flies, subsurface. Oli had16 with mayfly and buzzers and Chris had 17 with a mixture of black and olive buzzers. The black snake took a good number of fish again last week along with damsels. Cats and Montanas. If you fished a buzzer or a nymph such as a dawl bach under an indicator 4 to 6 feet down this was usually a good bet to catch a few or a lure on an intermediate with a slow retrieve.

The weather this morning has started out very nicely and looks pretty good for the week so hopefully we will see you on the banks.

Week ending 19/03/2023

The fish were active in all areas of the lake last week with some huge numbers being caught by some anglers. Often only a little way down taking buzzers nymphs and eggs and occasionally taking a dry or an emerger off the top. As usual once you worked out what they wanted you could soon rack up good numbers.

A good example of this was Saturday when it was a bit tough to tempt them for a while until

Daniel Golea put on a deadly cats whisker variation. In no time at all he reached double figures including a beautiful brown trout.

The browns and some of the larger fish are really starting to show up more often now and after the restock on the 15th everything has definitely been kicked up a notch. Buzzers, nymph, eggs,bloodworm and fabs have worked nicely at times as well as the usual lures. Cats, dancers and damsels have all caught fish and John Blake managed 33 rainbows all with a Montana off the boat.

Week ending 12/03/2023

The weather was against us for much of last week with only the very brave venturing out in the worst of it. When the weather did settle down it was a mixture of some quite tough days and some exceptional fishing with big numbers being caught. Fish have been very active up the east bank as they have been for a while now but the north end and halfway round the west bank have also fished well at times.

Generally the fish have been relatively close in and a boat has not been necessary. The most popular method and the one that has performed the best is various buzzers, eggs, nymphs and bloodworm, 4 to 6 feet under an indicator. The lure that worked best was the Montana and other black and green patterns.

On Sunday fishing came alive again with lots of fish coming out. John Blake had 18 off the boat with mostly black and green lures and Martin Smith had 28 with a combination of eggs, buzzers and a pink zonka. It's a great sign that the fish are so active right now and with a restock scheduled for Wednesday 15th this can only improve.

Week ending 05/03/2023

Buzzers, eggs and apps performed very well last week and between them took the majority of the fish. Fished about 4 to 6 feet down they could be deadly on most days. Often not very far out and mainly still on the east side. Fished under an indicator, part of a washing line or following the current on a long leader, all methods seemed to work nicely at times if you could find the fish. Anglers who preferred pulling lures also had luck to a lesser extent with damsels, Montanas and snakes working quite well also. It was great to see some of the larger fish being caught last week with George Pollard probably having the fish of the week which he caught with a Ellerdine fancy.

The fish are in fantastic shape and fighting really hard in the colder conditions and with a planned restock within the week, there will be more to join them. Hopefully see you soon on the bank.

Week ending 12/02/02023

Before the restock on the 8th last week there were some excellent days fishing with some managing big numbers and most anglers catching fish. Plenty of them were taken using black or white snakes with a very slow retrieve close or even on the bottom. You could have similar luck with smaller lures like a yellow dancer cats whisker or the best performer this week, the blue flash damsel. The fish still don't seem to be chasing after a quickly stripped back lure but alot of the takes are very aggressive and once hooked they are fighting like mad. Buzzers have worked incredibly well at times also either under a bung or with a washing line set up.

After the restock on Wednesday, good got even better with huge numbers being caught. Everything that was working before carried on working as well as alot of blobs, fabs and eggs.

Jeff Wilkinson managed 22 rainbows with most of them caught slowly dragging a snake along the bottom on an intermediate line. Kevin Stepney who is managing double figures on just about every visit also caught 22 with buzzers and dawl bachs. The fish have still been hanging around on the east and north banks and to a lesser degree car park corner but are showing signs of spreading around a little.

It was definitely a fun packed week with plenty of action and we are expecting this week to be equally as good if not better.

Week ending 15/01/2023

Pre-restock on the 10th of January the fishing was consistently good with most catching good numbers and a few reaching double figures just about everytime they visited the fishery. After the new arrivals were introduced however this was definitely kicked up a notch or two. The fish were spread out around the lake most of the time although the jetty has been unusually quiet. The north end has also been quite but this could have had more to do with anglers not wanting to battle against the strong winds we had for most of last week.

It was not necessary to use a boat to catch fish last week as most of them were easily within casting distance and often hanging out just in front of the reeds. Not unusually the new fish were more than happy to take blobs, fabs and egg patterns and most of the time no more than three feet down. Snakes and eggs worked well with the older fish very well with some bigger fish being caught with snakes very low down with a sinking or intermediate line.

After a large restock last Tuesday , there were some frustrating days but also days when fishing was exceptional. We experienced just about every weather condition at Blackdyke over the last seven days and this almost definitely had an effect on the fish and the numbers caught. Although it is nice to finally see some wet weather, the heavy rain on the weekend sent the fish down and Sunday was especially tough. There have been some great numbers caught when the conditions were right and you gave them what they wanted. The best of the bunch again was Martin Smith who had 35 rainbows midweek, mostly on snakes and a couple of days before he had 15 on dancers ,apps and buzzers.

Other things working this week were damsels, foam daddies and anything green and white retrieved relatively slowly with most of the fish being taken in the top 3 or 4 feet of the water

Along with fish numbers rising we are pleased to say that the water level is on the up also. We still have more work to do but the lake is getting back to looking as it should. We may have to close for a couple of days to do this work but as the weather needs to be still and dry to apply the product it is difficult to know when that will be exactly but we will try to give you as much notice as possible. Week ending 30/10/2022

Without sounding like a broken record buzzers, buzzers, snakes and buzzers (with the odd cats whisker and apps also working) other flies have worked such as ressie dinks ,foam daddies and the blobs but hardly consistently enough to mention. If you did happen to find yourself over a hatch with a black buzzer on the end, in no time at all you could be into double figures. When they have been feeding on buzzers it has often been two to three feet down and if fished under a dink they would occasionally take that. Fishing last week was a lot of fun with most anglers having plenty of action. Most notably for me though was two new fly anglers catching their first fish on the fly after having lessons at Blackdyke. They had to work hard for their fish and it took a few outings but I'm sure that only made it more satisfying.

We are making some headway with the stubborn leak and from the 1st of November we should be able to start slowly refilling. This week we also plan on restocking and because of the cost involved with this we are going to have to return to our usual ticket prices commencing 1 November, 2022. We totally understand if you would rather wait until we are completely back to normal before returning but any other way would not be viable for us. Week ending 23/10/2022

There were some fantastic days fishing last week with most anglers catching fish and some completely cleaning up. It has felt good being on the banks with the sun shining and with the colder temperatures at night the fish have started to move about nicely. Sometimes chasing but more often than not taking static buzzers, dawl bachs and apps bloodworm.

If you happened to find yourself over a hatch you could seriously have some fun as Andy Kenrick found out in the middle of the week.

He had 17 rainbows and the time of his life all on buzzers. Other flies working were damsels, cat whiskers and montanas. A little less frequently but still worth a try were foam daddies and a klink and dink.

On a positive note the leak in the lake looks to be under control. We will be doing more work over the next couple of weeks and are monitoring it daily but we are quietly optimistic. The low water level will continue for the next few weeks so prices will remain discounted for the time being.

Week Ending 16/10/2022

Despite the lower water level, we have seen some very positive things happening at the fishery the last seven days.

Fishing improved gradually through the week ending with the best day of the lot on Sunday.

Early on in the week we had some anglers having real success pulling lures while others had a few on nymphs and buzzers. Apps bloodworm was a constant through the week with red working best but olive also taking fish sometimes fished static and other times using a slow retrieve. On the weekend the fish seemed to really wake up especially on Sunday where just about everyone saw some great sport. Snakes of every colour seemed to work well as the fish were definitely chasing at times and at other times buzzers worked beautifully. We had our first brown out since reopening which is a good sign, caught by Andy Kenrick . It was a gorgeous 3 pounder which he would have loved a picture of but he was more concerned with getting him back in.

Although we could still do with plenty of rain and some consistently cold weather things are definitely looking up. We have distributed the 'damit' and are feeling optimistic but now, we are just monitoring the level to see if it has worked effectively. Thank you to all the anglers who have supported the fishery this week despite the water level. Special prices remain for the forseeable and fishing is good so we hope you see you.

IMPORTANT NEWS AND REPORT

If you have visited the fishery in the last couple of weeks, you would have noticed the lake level is low. We have been managing a leak in the lake for some time now but it is very obvious the leak is getting worse. As you can imagine, a leak in a lake the size of ours is like looking for a needle in a haystack with a blindfold on. Last week we had a diver come to scout the bottom but unfortunately, visibility was too poor to see anything of significance. We have, however, ordered a 'miracle' product from Australia (due to arrive today) that gives us hope we can mend the leak(s) without needing to drain the lake completely but only time will tell if it works.

With the depth of lake currently at around 15 ft, we feel the lake is still fishable for now. Only 15 fish have been taken since a double restock in September and the weather is set to cool off meaning plenty of fish to be had as conditions improve for fishing.

It's unfair to assume business can continue as normal for the next few weeks as we pride ourselves on offering the very best experience to all our anglers. We have decided to leave it up to you if you want to come so we will remain open for the time being. Everything is as it was except the lake is smaller and you will have to walk onto the clay to cast. We are well aware that it's not ideal so that's why it's up to you. We will post regular picture updates on facebook to show the level on the lake on a continued basis.

With that in mind, we will reduce our prices for the foreseeable, until we can get things back to normal.

Needless to say, it has been an emotional last few weeks as we look at our options but I'm sure you can all agree, we must fight to keep what we all love. Week ending 02/10/2022

This weeks report is almost a carbon copy of the week before. The fish were after similar things and the anglers had to be on their games to net them. The fish have been very active all over the lake but many fish have been missed as the takes were often subtle. We are waiting for the water temperature to drop a little further so that the fish start to chase and the takes become more aggressive. Nymphs and buzzers either on an indicator or washing line have worked as well as eggs, blobs and fabs. Damsels have been working quite nicely also along with a white snake and the apps bloodworm. We are still waiting for the daddies to start working but there isn't much happening at the moment although now and again they have started to take off the top taking the odd booby and going for the indicator. Although it still isn't easy right now people really seem to be enjoying their fishing and are up for the challenge. Picture of Stan Brown

Week Ending 25/09/2022

With the water cooling down nicely the fishing is improving daily. On some days they were up for a chase and other days they were happy to take static flies a few feet down. The lures that have worked over the last week have been cats whiskers, yellow dancers and plenty have been caught with white snakes on an intermediate line. Other flies working last week were hares ear or black and red nymphs and buzzers of the same colour. Also odd red apps worked occasionally along with daddies and a few other dries. Towards the end of the week anglers started to catch higher numbers with Martin Smith the best of the bunch reaching double figures on two occasions. Most of these were caught either with a white snake or a yellow dancer. There were days however especially earlier in the week when they really didn't want to know and these could be challenging and frustrating days. But even on these days if you managed to find them and put some colour in front of them you could entice a take.

This week we had many new anglers to the lake which is so good to see and I don't think in one week we have had so many compliments on the lakes condition and the facilities at Blackdyke. We never get bored of hearing this as we want the experience of visiting Blackdyke to be as pleasurable as possible even if on the odd occasion you don't manage to bag a fish.

With the weather conditions all over the place the fishing was a bit all hit and miss this week. Some anglers, at times finding themselves surrounded by fish and easily making double figures. Most notably this week was Martin Smith catching 25 rainbows mostly in the afternoon in awful weather conditions.

Not much has changed as far as what they are taking. Sally lures are still working, damsels, dancers and cats along with black and green patterns. Lots of action on buzzers and nymphs mostly a few feet down and the dries are really starting to kick in when the conditions are right.

Andrew Batchelor , Steve Holt and Steve Willerton (pictured) really enjoyed a lads getaway in the cabin and had 5 out between them even though they had to fish through some rotten weather. For most anglers it has been an excellent week even though we had a tricky North Easterly wind blowing over the lake all week. 37 anglers caught 71 fish of which 54 were released. Mostly cats whiskers and buzzers but lures, damsels and orange blobs and fritz all yielding results. Larger fish have been landed so it's a good time to remind everyone that barbless and de barbed hooks must be used and anything over 5 lb released. If you are unsure of the weight please release it. We have put in some larger fish for everyone to enjoy as they give a really excellent fight and long may it continue. New check in procedure so please check out the website or facebook for details. First two weeks of reopening has been off to an excellent start. 57 anglers caught 102 fish - some over 4lbs. Variety of methods and fly used with best results from cats whiskers, bloodworms, buzzers, black dries, hares ear and green nymphs. Difficult week this week. Dries have worked on some days and then on other days fishing deeper on buzzers worked better. Best numbers have been off the boats. Fish are still showing but are probably distracted by the abundant natural damsel on the waters surface. Very warm temperatures expected this week which many of you know, trout don't respond well to.

36 anglers caught 85 fish of which 74 were safely released. Floater with a washing line, dries, buzzers, diawl bachs, popper hoppers, damsels and small black beetles best methods. Al Mac Pherson had his personal best at Blackdyke of 20 on Thursday the 11th fishing on an evening ticket. We will now allow boat hire but you MUST book in advance and only one person per row boat and 2 people from the same household on the wheelie boat. Life jackets must be worn and hand washing before use. We will continue our 2 ticket options: 9:00 - 16:00 £20 16:00- 21:00 £15/. Booking preferred but now not essential. Despite terrible weather for most of the week, fishing from mid week on was great with the restock stirring things up. Martin Smith had 26 on Friday and 34 on Saturday but most anglers were in high single digits. Fish are well dispersed and anywhere from the top to about 4 ft down. Blue flash damsels, black buzzers, red diawl bachs, blobs and foam daddies just some of the fly used. James Beck and his son Ollie had 10 on Sunday - pic attached of one in the net.

Week ending 31/05/2020

Its been a very busy couple of weeks since reopening. First week rod average was excellent but this week things have been quieter as conditions were not ideal. Bright warm sunny days meant fishing was a challenge with lots of knocks but less in the net. 60 anglers caught 48 fish of which 39 were released. RESTOCK TOMORROW TUESDAY JUNE 2ND. Cooler, cloudier forecast later in the week which will help. Dries still best method and lots of mayfly, damsels and buzzers hatching. Booking is still recommended and no boats unless exceptional circumstance. We are now offering an evening ticket too - 16:00 - 21:00 - 1 fish catch and release £15.

Week 2 since we reopened and the fishery has been busy. 52 anglers caught 103 fish of which 89 were safely released. On sunny days fish have been taking dries off the top and cloudier days damsel nymphs and mayfly. Excellent sport enjoyed by all. At this time, we will still not be offering out boats unless its an exceptional circumstance.

We are now offering one additional ticket option for those back at work and for those that enjoy the evening rise - please read carefully each option and again, booking is recommended. Week ending 17/05/2020

Fishery reopened on Wednesday the 13th. 62 anglers caught 245 fish which was fantastic. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday saw a rod average of 5 and fishing was excellent. Saturday and Sunday things calmed down a bit but still all but a few had decent results. Dries off the top most of the time but also damsel nymphs, hares ear, blobs, dwail bachs and there is a good hatch of natural mayfly off the lake too. Fishing can be one of the safest sports if we continue to respect the rules of social distancing so thank you to all our customers both old and new - we are so happy to see activity on the lake again. Its been a steady week but disappointing catch numbers. 31 anglers and only 14 fish caught over the week. Fish are showing but they don't seem to be feeding on anything in particular at the moment. Next restock Monday the 16th of September where we are sure they will liven up the resident stock.

Fishing report/news 01/09/2019

Fishing has been unpredictable this week with white/green lures, olive or black snakes, damsel, and various buzzers all being tried.

On the calmer clear days fish were about 4 - 6ft down and on the windier cooler days you could see fish rising but methods had to vary and effort much harder.

The Troutmasters fish off is Sunday April 7th and we will be confirming attendance over the next few days.

Next restock late March but plenty of fish to be had.
